About Scattering Damage

This is incidental or secondary damage inflicted by your fleet. Certain Commanders, weapons, and ships can increase Scattering Damage to various degrees. Unlike direct weapons fire, scattering damage cannot be mitigated, and even ships in the Glasshouse are vulnerable to it.

Stacking

Scattering Damage effects are stackable. For example, Missile Weapons can inflict up to 54% scattering damage to all ships in the targeted fleet (Fully researched Missile Science). If your fleet has a Conquistador-X Flagship then this will be increased by an additional 30%. If the commander is a Sandora, or any Sandora derived Divine, then there is the chance for yet additional 30% damage. Scattering is all based on Direct-fire damage values, so if the targeted stack absorbs all the damage, no scattering will be applied.

Attack Damage * (Attack Module Scattering + Flagship Scattering + Commander Scattering) = Scattering Damage per affected stack

In our example and assuming Attack = 30,000 (unmitigated) against a fleet whose defense stacks are at 100,000 and commander spiffs are triggered

30,000 * (54% + 30% + 30%)
30,000 * (114%) = 34,200

Therefore the stricken stack takes (30,000 damage - target's Shields and armor) but the rest of the fleet takes 34,200 damage per stack. This is actually higher than the direct-fire damage on the stricken stack. Shields and armor on scattered ships are damaged without applying damage mitigation.

At this rate it would only take 3-4 strikes to completely destroy the fleet.

Types of Scattering Damage

The damage pattern is dependent on the commander, weapon type, and the level of science research.

Commander based Scattering

In general, Commander based scattering inflicts scattering damage on all ships of the targeted fleet depending only on the Commander's trigger value. Conversely, there are commanders that may mitigate Scattering Damage effects.

Ship supported scattering Damage

There are certain hulls that will enhance or enable additional scattering damage. The most famous of these is the Conquistador flagship, which can inflict up to 30% additional Scattering Damage for every shot fired. Like Commander based scattering, the effects apply to all of the ships in the targeted fleet.

Ballistic Weapons

Ballistic weaps only scatter to the same row of the targeted ship.

Directional Weapons

Directional weapons have a scattering damage effect known as piercing damage. This inflicts scattering damage to all ships on the same column as the targeted ship. It does not inflict damage on ships in the same row.

Missile Weapons

Missile weapons are the only weapons type that that will inflict scattering damage to ALL the ships in the targeted fleet.

Ship-Based Weapons

Ship-based weapons apply no inherent scattering damage.

Enhancers

Various items in Technology Research can enhance or mitigate the effects of scattering.
