About Figures of Merit
Figures of Merit are used in engineering and other design fields to normalize and compare different objects. The are only First Order Approximations (See Orders ofApproximation). In the game, they are used to compare Hull designs in a more meaningful way. Other Figures may be designed as time permits.
- Effective Stack - In-game value that determines attacking power of a fleet.
- Effective Volume - Used to compare two ship hulls for relative merit based on normalized volume.
- Volumetric Efficiency - Used to compare similar modules for their relative efficacy. These will be most often used to weapons verses other weapons (even of different classes), shield modules, struct modules, etc.
- Volume Units - Installation slots.
